Indianapolis Fire Station No. 32

In September of 2005, the Indianapolis City-Council passed a budget that will not fund the salaries of 44 fire fighters and 126 police officers in 2006. One of the places affected by the budget cuts is Fire Station No. 32, located in Broad Ripple.

Broad Ripple Village is losing their fire engine and people aren't happy about this. Opened in 1922, this fire house was the first motorized station in the city. Unlike the modern designed houses, this station fits in with the neighborhood, and it really is a part of the community. Of course, it has been limited in engine size due to its age, and the overhead door shows signs of a tight fit.

The station house personnel are friendly as most people in the village know. Early one Saturday morning, I walked up and asked to take photos. I received a quick yes and learned about the station as I chatted with the guys.

Take a peek.

Here's what the Indianapolis Star had to say about the station last year.
